Spotlight on Susan
Susan Furness founded Strategic Solutions, reputed to be Dubai’s first corporate communications consultancy, in 1995. She has 26 years experience in Arabia – and has held positions in Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE - with experience and knowledge of all six GCC markets, as well as international markets.
Susan is a retail, corporate communications and brand development specialist with focus on tourism & hospitality, new market entry, strategic brand management and change management with establishments such as Abu Dhabi Securities market (ADSM) and Batelco Bahrain. Such best practise projects generally require Susan to work closely with in-house teams, and often to second her own team members to the project.
In addition, Susan has contributed to various news columns and public conferences and has also edited numerous leading titles, such as Gulf Marketing Review, IHC Bahrain’s Lifestyle magazine, Bahrain International Airport’s Gateway Bahrain, among others.
She is regularly featured as a member of task force panels for leading companies, such as Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Bahrain World Trade Centre, Arabal (the global aluminium industry conference), Dubai 2003 brand development team (global meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund), and Hotel Rating standards for (local) tourism boards.
From 2005-2007, Susan was CEO for Havas Euro RSCG’s public relations remit in the Middle East.
Susan is a founding member & outgoing board member responsible for Events for Middle East PR Association (MEPRA); a founding board member of Hotel Catering and Management Association (HCIMA) Dubai Chapter, a long-time member of Skal International and a board member for Montessori (education) developments (in London and Arabia). She is also a fourth year advisory board member of Arabian Hotel Investment Conference.
